You know what's a huge relief?

Deciding that, no, I really don't have to read the four biographies that have piled up by my bed. Really, what more do I need to know about Katharine Hepburn, Keith Richards, Marilyn Monroe, or Steve Jobs? I love her movies, he's a huge rock & roll character, she's an enigma, and he was a genius prick. Right? The books have just been sitting there making me feel bad, and today, I decided that they could go to the big bookshelf in the sky.

Life's too short to read books that you don't really want to read.

  1. That sounds like an excellent decision. There are so many other things you can do with all that time. I wonder what weighty things I can unload from my mental to-do list. (Well, aside from the damn degree.)

Also, great summaries. I'm pretty sure they're enough for me.

  2. Agreed. I was 38 before I abandoned a book, but now I do it all the time.

  4. Giggling because I just recommended that you read ... a memoir. But it's not like those four, really!

  5. I fully subscribe to the notion that is much too short to read books I don't want to read.

  6. I mostly subscribe to the theory that biographies are not worth reading.

  7. I abandon books too. For years I read mostly non-fiction, including essays, memoirs, biographies, and how-to's. I couldn't find a fiction book to get lost in. Over the last year or two, I've rediscovered fiction. Favorite author of the moment is Laura Moriarty. I've reald all her books.
