The girl wanted to make cookies for Valentine's Day, so we did. We got flour and sugar all over the kitchen, we used six different colors and textures of decorating sugar, and four different colors of royal icing, and several icing tips, and pink and red edible markers.
I had to rein in my inner control freak, because, well, my cookies would have been tidier and far less gaudy. But I let it go, for the sake of the girl. She's ever so pleased and is taking them to school tomorrow.
But don't worry. Daddy ate the one that says "Eat Me!"
My children are not allowed to share homemade food at school. It has to be store-bought. Sigh.

ReplyDeleteWe did our own decorating a few days ago. And like you, I let go of my inner control freak and just let the kids decorate as kids do. But then I saved a few for myself so that I could decorate them just the way I wanted to. Everybody wins :)

ReplyDeleteThe thing you have to love about cookies is there are a bunch of them. Some can be neat, some can be messy, all of them can be delicious. They look awesome. I would lick the icing off of every one.

ReplyDeleteYou are lucky your daughter can take stuff like that to school. I was going to make your cell phone valentines that you posted about last year but a strict no candy rule was applied. What is valentine's day with out even a little candy?
ReplyDeleteLove them. My kids (esp Red) love to decorate cakes and cookies and I've had to learn to step aside and let the magic happen. They always taste devine! Even if there's a mountain of sugar crap on them. :)

ReplyDeleteThe "no homemade" rule is in fear of food poisoning. Since the school can't guarantee that the home in which the food was made was clean. Just by-the-way.
ReplyDeleteOur school has a no-homemade rule, too. But KayTar and I LOVE to make cookies, usually for no reason at all. Hers get pretty wild, too, but in the end the only ones she will try are the totally plain kind.

She's 44. There is no hope. But I love her lots.
is daddy always so good at taking direction? (and I don't mean that in a dirty way, but i couldn't think of a way to phrase it that sounded any less dirty. although, that's an interesting question, too, but one I truly do not expect you to answer!)
