I'll tell you. It's a mummified howler monkey, in a feather ruff, and its picture was in today's New York Times, with no mention of the feathers. Its picture was in the paper because there's a traveling exhibit in Philadelphia right now, called Mummies of the World. All the other mummy pictures were discussed in the accompanying article, but not the monkey and its feathers. Journalistic lapse, if you ask me.
On the other hand, I kind of want to take a field trip to Philadelphia to see these mummies, pairing it with a side trip to the Mutter Museum, and maybe a cheese steak.
Who's in?
Depending on scheduling, I'd love to link up. Keep me posted!
ReplyDeleteMe me me. I spent four years in Phila. and never went to the Mutter! Plus I missed those mummies when they were in Milwaukee.
ReplyDelete...and good lord, where does it want to perch?
ReplyDeleteWe just went to the Franklin last week and I skipped the mummies (because they're too icky for me, though Z. wanted to go)--but you know if you were coming down, I'd be up for it. The Mutter's barely even a stroll away from the Franklin.
ReplyDeleteThat exhibit is AWESOME & AMAZING! Went this past weekend for the opening and was blown away by what i saw. The pictures dont do it justice. I seen a few prior to going and thought some would be sickening, except viewing them in person was so terrific. I couldnt help but stand and stare in amazement at some of the details on these mummies still preserved. It wasnt scary or sickening at all, it was well worth every cent! GO GO GO!
ReplyDeleteI may have nightmares about that thing!
