I finally finished the sweater for the girl. Well, I actually finished it about a month ago, but then I did something stupid - something that I managed to fix, but I'll tell you all about that tomorrow*. In the meantime, here - at last - is the sweater on the girl, the girl having put together one of her inimitable outfits.
The reason the stripes look kooky is because the yarn was multi-colored, and it's a top down sweater pattern, pretty much knit all in one piece, and I was basically knitting back and forth from placket to placket. Oh well. Another lesson learned: multi-colored yarn behaves strangely unless you are knitting in the round.
In any case, I am happy to have completed another item off my FIFTY list.
*It's craft week here at the ranch. I'm in a flurry of projects.
It's fabulous. The stripes don't seem all that wonky - it sort of adds to the effect.
ReplyDeleteHandmade clothing for kids makes me melancholy - they outgrow it so soon.
Awesome job! I love it! I haven't been brave enough to knit for my kids because I know they will trash it and out grow it.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful. Reminds me of the sweaters my grandmother made for me when I was a kid. And the stripes just make it look really handmade and one of a kind. This ia another nudge to get me to actually learn to knit.
ReplyDeleteWow, it's beautiful. Love the colors. I don't think I'm going to learn to knit in this lifetime.
ReplyDeleteVERY impressive. I never got past the scarf stage.
ReplyDeleteShe's so stylin'. And I don't get what you mean by the stripes being kooky. Maybe that's because kooky can't see itself.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI think it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe sweater is lovely. I like that the stripes are random,
ReplyDeletemore beautiful that way. She is lovely, too!
It's gorgeous! And the ensemble is great.
ReplyDeleteI like the stripes that way, too. And the boots.
ReplyDeleteI love it! So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow - I'm impressed! And I like it just the way it is.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful. And the zipper problem was nicely fielded.
ReplyDeleteI've done striped sweaters a lot. If you do make a buttonhole band, you can control the match of the stripes a lot easier. And, honest, knit buttonholes are not hard. It's a cast off/cast on technique and you can learn it in one. Sewing on the dratted buttons, especially on a baby sweater where you don't want baby to eat buttons, is another matter. I use a second button as a backer.
well done!! i think it looks fabulous!! and look, she can wear it...all i've ever knitted was a scarf. i so would like to be able to properly knit. but alas, i cannot...
