The costume shop in my building went out of business, a casualty of a bad economy, bead-work outsourced to China, more shows in street clothes, and expensive labor. It's a damned shame, and makes me wistful on a number of levels.
On the other hand, I'm never buying Christmas ribbon again, and my packages will be the best dressed ever.
I'm sorry that they went out of business. But oh my! I'd be so excited if I were you too. I love buying ribbons even though I can't remember the last time I tied a bow to a present. I just keep on thinking: One day these would come in handy! Actually when I was in HS, I dreamed about opening a coffee shop with a gift wrapping shop (heavily Japanese influenced... Have you seen how the stores in Japan package their goods before they let their customers leave with them? That's the fancy idea) in the front.
ReplyDelete40 years ago, my father in law worked for 3M and brought home a "damaged" spool of the paper they uses to make the plaid lining of the Scotch tape containers. They were going to toss the whole thing because it had some irregularity at the edge. He has literally never bought Christmas wrapping paper again.
ReplyDeleteBummer about the costume shop.
Gah! so many wonderful things came out of that costume shop. I'm sad to hear that.
ReplyDeleteSo many uses for ribbon though. Great score, Maggie.
Serious ribbon envy here.
ReplyDeleteoh man, i have serious sewing stash envy...
ReplyDeleteI would NOT have been able to resist. What a score!
ReplyDeleteWonderful find!
ReplyDeletei have a ribbon habit too. no matter how much i have i will always want more. luckily with kids there are a lot of ribbon needing projects to feed my habit.
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous that you have somewhere to store all those goodies. I like to tell myself I will be crafty once we are settled in a house, but who knows. That would require free-time. I admire your passion for all things handmade!
