Beware of All Enterprises That Require New Clothes

I had lunch today with my friend Martha. We met at the falafel shop, we walked to the park, we sat knee to knee on chairs without a table in between, we ate our falafel, she dribbled hot sauce on her white pants, and after awhile I said "Martha! Did you notice that I dyed my hair?"

And she looked straight at me and said "what?"

So I turned my head and she gasped.

Considering that it's cobalt blue, it's pretty subtle.
If you have any enterprise before you, try it in your old clothes.

I haven't painted my toenails, I haven't waxed my legs, I haven't invested in eye shadow, I haven't bought new clothes, and I certainly haven't bought a girdle. But I did dye my hair for BlogHer.

Would Thoreau approve?

  2. It must be a subtle blue if she didn't notice. Pictures? Yes?

When my friend was here to stay in June, she was coming off a week's vacation, and needed to do laundry. I saw unfathomable garments, especially for summer weather.

My daughter asked for that blue dye, but it didn't come out too well, considering that her hair is brown and I refused to use the bleach packet. Then the tub turned purple during the rinsing phase, and all I could think was "We're supposed to be putting this house on the market and I've ruined the bath tub while indulging an eight year old." My panic telegraphed to her, and she started crying for me to rinse it all out.

I'm sure you're rockin' it, though.

  4. Oh, philosopher... why blue? Why not orange or red or green or violet?

I've got some natural silver highlights coming in that I could loan ya...

  6. I will admit I did buy new shoes for BlogHer... but the are comfortable shoes.

And I did buy a new skirt.... but it's a t-shirt material skirt. I can wear it to a playdate with my 2 year old.

Wish I had thought to dye my hair. That would have been fun.

  13. I am returning to comment because I was just at the hairdresser's today. Before I left we were talking about my grey coming in - she was saying how much she liked how it looked coming in with my mostly dark hair. I agreed, but said I wasn't sure what I would want to do when it was mostly grey. Now I realize I had an answer the whole time, go BLUE! (my hipster hairdresser would certainly approve)
