Maps and Tigers

The first grader has been working on maps at school, and brought home some mapping homework one day. As it happened, she went directly to her grandmother's house that afternoon, where she got to hang out with her visiting aunt. As I know I've mentioned before, my sister-in-law has a blog on creating books with children. She also has a sneaker for maps and map-making, so she dove right into supervising the homework - and then blogged about it. Click over to Bookmaking with Kids and see if you can find the tigers.

There's been an escape at the zoo, and there are more than two kitties looking to cuddle at the Magpie household tonight!

It seems your daughter is working hard to get a pet (first a parent- control superpower, now a map). I think you should reward such grand multi-layered creativity with ... a kitty.

(My 15-yo still draws maps with her friends --I still love it!)

Thanks for linking to my blog.

Because our household always had a dog, my kids each campaigned separately for a "personal" pet, meaning hamsters, guinea pigs and the like. They petitioned the tooth fairy. They wrote to Santa Claus. They devised and swore oaths promising to feed and clean their pets, without parental reminders.

Charmed by this outpouring, we eventually gave in ...

And if you decide to cave, I'd definitely recommend a feline over a rodent!
