O Tannenbaum

Tomorrow I have to go back to work. It's been a nice week and a half off - with Christmas celebrations that began on the 24th, and finished today. There was champagne, and good cheese, and excellent beef, not to mention raised waffles and candy cane crisps. Oh, and bagels and wine and clementines and pistachios.

Our tree is still up, though most of the presents have found their places around the house. And I hate taking down the tree. It takes so long, and it sucks all the glitter out of the air. And then there are needles to vacuum up, and boxes to carry down, and the tree itself to be dragged, unceremoniously, to the curb.

If I were brave and had a back forty and some explosives, I'd rocket launch the tree instead.

After all, a Christmas tree deserves a good send off as reward for filling our hearts with gaiety, no?

  2. That would be a send off! Perhaps not the most energy efficient one, though.

I'm not sure when we'll take down our tree. It's barely been up, and barely been decorated. At least the minimal decorating will make it easier to undress.

  3. We have a fake tree but it still took more two hours to take it and the decorations down Saturday morning. Then I couldn't get the tree packed into the tree container, so after three tries Jeremiah did it in one.

  4. My husband outwitted me - he told me the town pick up was ON the 4th, but I discovered after the deed was done that it only begins on the 4th.

  5. Huh! Ditching the Christmas tree IS rocket science!

  6. Those candy cane crisps sound great! Once I'm done being sick of sweets, I think I'll make those!

  7. The one good thing about not being home for Christmas is not having a tree to take down. On the other hand, I make up for it with all the decor I have to put away at work...

The raised waffle batter looks much like the Belgian Waffle batter I make. That was our New Year's Day brunch--nothing like starting off the year with a nice healthy meal of waffles, fruit and ice cream :D

  8. You just inspired me to invent a catapult for the frozen pumpkins on my stoop.

  9. My husband had surgery last week and he's still not supposed to lift anything, so I took down the tree all by myself and boxed up the decorations all by myself and hoisted those boxes into the garage storage all by myself. I was so mad by the end of it, I'm surprised the tree didn't launch into space just like in your movie there!

  11. Since I have a fake tree up this year, I'm totally leaving it up for as long as I can. Because it can TOTALLY be an Easter Tree.

  12. now if you were a Jew, all you'd have to do is clean that wax of the menorah and then you have all that spare time to watch Law and Order. Okay, well that is what I do.

  13. Oh, I feel your pain, the ornaments were just packed, and each year the box seems to get a tad bit bigger.
I hate the clean-up but do love that feeling of suddenly feeling the house shed a few pounds, feeling lighter and a bit less encumbered with all that holiday schleckerie, that is what my Mom calls all that sugary over the top anything.

  14. I'm still kind of bummed about our return to reality this week. Man I miss sleeping in!

Our tree is up, but has been undecorated. The undecorating is my job...the disassembling is Josh's, which is why it is still up. LOL.

  15. Maggie, I zeroed in on the candy cane crisps right off, but rocket launched tree video cracked me up.

    Thanks. I needed that.
