I think they have us pegged.
Looking forward to reading Frank Bruni's book.
ReplyDeleteyum. I am also excited about this year's book present -- "Indian Home Cooking" by Suvir Saran and Stephanie Lyness.
ReplyDeleteand you must let us know how "Catching Fire" is. sounds like a book this Biology teacher who loves to cook would enjoy.
I'm so looking forward to reading the Frank Bruni book!
ReplyDeleteAn amusing pile! I'm intrigued by the opera lover's book. I've only read #1; and I'd be interested in your commentary when you get to it.
ReplyDeletep.s. I got Nigel Slater's latest from my husband.
I got two copies of Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Each the size of a doorstop. Good grief.
ReplyDeleteAll non-fiction food books, but no actual cook books? Or humor food books? Wow. Your reputation must be pretty powerful!
ReplyDeleteI would love to read each and every one of those! Did you get a week off to go along with all that reading material? ;) Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness! Sounds like fun. Have a very happy birthday on Tuesday!
ReplyDeletePlease tell me how you like Cleaving. I was ruminating on this book a couple weeks ago. Opted for a different title. Want to know if I should give it a second gander.
ReplyDeleteMy in-laws gave me Ayelet Waldman's Bad Mother, and gave Chris Fatherhood for Amateurs by Michael Chabon. I like the idea of a couple getting books written by a couple, but I think I might have preferred the Chabon book.
ReplyDeleteIn the food non-fiction genre, you might like the book I got for my brother-in-law: Jonathan Gold's book Counter Intelligence. Although nominally about where to eat in LA, it is a culinary tour of various ethnic food. Plus, his writing is good.
and a very happy birthday, my friend!
ReplyDeleteand frankly, now I 'm a little hungry.
ReplyDeleteLove the title Cleaving. Over Christmas Jeff's great-aunt (about 90 years old) was talking dreamily of how much she loves her bandsaw. She still has it in her basement and uses it all the time (her husband was a butcher).
ReplyDeleteI find this photograph very enticing. I want to read all of these books!
ReplyDeleteAs a fan of home butchering (hunting family), I'm looking forward to reading Julie Powell's new book. Maybe you can write a little review after whipping through each book, in all your spare time. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd happy birthday to you. (My son was born on Jan 9th and it always feels as if people are sort of sick of the parties by then - myself included).
