I Know What I'm Doing In 2014

As much fun as it was to have a colonoscopy in June and another one in July, it’s much nicer to be told that all’s well and I don’t need another one for FIVE years.

Don’t let me stop you from having one of your own though. The procedure is a piece of cake, and the prep really isn’t that bad. My two cents? The orange flavor packet for the Trilyte is better than the lemon-lime, and drinking it at room temperature is easier than drinking it cold. Mind you, “better” and “easier” are incremental improvements, but improvements none-the-less.

You know you ought to, so just do it.

  1. I am a relative rookie in the bloggy wilderness but I appreciate your perspective and honesty even about the less glamorous aspects of life. Good for you for encouraging us all to be vigilante about our health!

  2. Yikes. Meant "vigilant." Although maybe you are also a vigilante of sorts in that you are taking your health into your own hands? Thanks again.

Btw, Nike's "Just Do It" is my favorite quote of all time.

  4. YAY YOU!

Glad to hear it went well. Maybe in five years they'll have come up with a better prep. Here's hopin'.

  5. Personally, I thought that mixing the Miralax in Orange Gatorade and drinking it frosty cold was actually tasty (as in, I didn't have to choke it down).

Until the 7th glass of 8, of course.

    I don't need another one until I'm 50! WOOT!

  6. And I agree about the post-procedure nap. Oh. My. God. It was heaven.

  7. The fretting was far worse then the actual procedure. The drugs are so effective you have no sensation after - I even doubted it actually took place. If you're wondering - really there was no evidence.

  8. Glad to hear you get a 5 year break!

I need to schedule a mammagram before I go for the colonoscopy.
    Good times.

  9. Glad to hear all went well, and that this won't be an annual (let alone monthly) event! But I don't plan to do it until my doctor asks me to.

  12. Glad to hear that everything is as it should be . . . and that the procedure isn't so bad, when the time comes . . .

  14. I ought to, when? Is there a recommended age for the first one (if you don't have any risk factors)?

  15. Unfortunately, I am well acquainted with the procedure. Being knocked out is fun but the prep...yuck.

Glad you don't have to have another one soon!

  16. Yay on the clean bill of health.

I'm never one to postpone a test, but if I was Fond of Snape's story would change my mind quickly.

  18. Glad to hear all is well. I haven't had a colonoscopy yet, but when the time comes for it my mind will definitely be more at ease.

  19. It is nice to get that all clear isn't it. Cheers for you.
Up here in Eastern Ontario, the drinks just seem to come in chalk flavour -- what have I been missing?

  21. I think I have a few years before I'm due for one, hopefully I'll be insured by then!

  22. Had one earlier this year, so I get to skip the one @ 50. Yuck on the prep, though. I am not fussy about things like that, but just thinking about it is making me gag all over again.
