Yes, we found it in the cellar. Actually the girlie found it and freaked out. And her grandmother thought it was a rubber toy. We thought they were exaggerating, until we saw it.
PS I'm pretty sure that it was a harmless-to-humans fishing spider.

I've only seen a handful of these in my life, but I remember the occasion of every one. I was probably about M's age the first time & it was in my grandmother's mud room.
I'm stunned anyone had the guts to put the ruler so close!
Looks like a great specimen of wolf spider to me. We have tons of those.
They get big, and are efficient predators, but can't really cause any harm to humans, and mostly stay out of our typical busy living zones. I appreciate them in the house (free pest control) but I tend to relocate them outdoors if they cross that living zone boundary too much.
Yikes! What kind of spider is that??? I love that old ruler....
That's freaking scary.
I.Hate.Spiders.
I'm going to run away now...
I'll see your eek and raise you a yikes!
*shriek*
What are you trying to do to me!?!
I am a bit of an arachnophobe. And a centipede-ophobe. YUCK!
I can't believe you got close enough with that ruler. If that were me, I would have gotten out the Clorox Cleanup and shot that thing til it shriveled.
Oh, isn't she lovely?
Reminds me of two things - a rhyme and a saying.
The rhyme: never kill a spider; guide her to the nursery; to play with the children
The saying: Kill a spider, make it rain
Shade and Sweetwater,
K (who tends to relocate insects rather than smush them)
I've seen those before. Hope I don't see one again!
we have a lot of spiders around here, but most are either much smaller or more spindly than your specimin. they do eat bugs that you don't necessarily want around. but, eek.
Yuck, I'd freak out too! That is one big spider.
Happy WW!
One of the few times I'm glad I don't have a basement.
*screams and runs away*
I was never really bothered all that much by spiders until I learned that, in addition to having eight legs, most of them also have eight eyes. Eeek!
The only spiders that bother me are the ones that jump. ;-)
Nice shot Magpie.
awesome. Love the ruler in the pic.
I have a deal with spiders. If they don't bite me, I won't bite them. So far, they owe me big.
;-)
Oh my! I don't mind MOST spiders too much, but I don't think I'd like to find one that size!!
True scientist with the ruler and all! Eek is right, that's HUGE!
I'm completely horrified. I would—no kidding—have to move.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph. I'd have freaked too.
What the hell are you doing NOT smacking that spider with that ruler?
egads!
holy crap i think i would have peed my pants had i seen it. yikes!
