When you see the chives in flower, you understand that the giant allium that blooms in the perennial bed is in the onion family. It's like a mammoth chive blossom.
We were just laughing about some chives that I've had in a bucket for about seven years. The darned things thrive contrary to the lack of love I bestow upon them (and the abundance of watering that my hound lets loose.) Pretty things.
Well you know how I feel about onions :) Still working on that post about onions. It's kind of hard for me to hate onions now after seeing this lovely photo.
We have alliums in the bed by our mailbox. I love them.
ReplyDeleteI never even knew they flowered!

ReplyDeleteRemind me not to eat any chives at Woman in a Window's place ...

ReplyDeleteI was thinking of growing some chives just because they are so pretty.
ReplyDeleteDoes the allium have a bulb down there? And I wonder if it's edible.
Wow, I did not know this.
ReplyDeleteChives are tasty and beautiful!
We will definitely plant these next year--thanks!

ReplyDeleteOur gardens must be in sync. My alliums are in bloom, as are my chives. The CSA gave us a tomato plant today. Yum.
ReplyDeleteMy mother used to grow flowering chives. they always remind me of her
ReplyDeleteLove them too and I am missing mine.
