And six months ago, Cold Spaghetti did too.
Obviously, I never get anything done, though I am good at making to do lists. Cold Spaghetti wanted six random things, and She She wanted thirteen. Thirteen plus six is too many; here are four:
- Growing up, my mother always used charge cards - she had a card for every single department store in the area, before the wide spread development of credit cards that could be used anywhere. I was shockingly old before I realized that you could go to Macy's or Lord & Taylor and pay cash. I didn't know they took cash. I thought they only took charge cards.
- I love driving with the windows open. I love driving with the music up loud. I hate air-conditioning. All of this means that I really prefer to be alone in the car, because windows open + loud music = conversation is impossible.
- Flannel sheets are never as plush as the day they come out of the package - it's just all downhill from there. On the other hand, good 100% cotton percale gets better and better, and finally, when it's perfect? It disintegrates. I prefer percale.
- The secret to nonagenarian lucidity is Red Bull, at least as evidenced by one Ruth Cummins, who was quoted on the front page of today's New York Times.
I hate air conditioning too. Have a great weekend. :)
ReplyDeleteRuth Cummins is soooo my type of person!
ReplyDeletei shall pick you up in my convertible, and we will drive with the music up loud, chugging red bull (I wonder if Ruth chugs it? It seems like what you are supposed to do). When we're tired, we'll stop and pay for gas and a room with a charge card and sleep soundly on really soft sheets.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of a/c either but I dislike, even more, the stink of diesel fuel and cigarette smoke from other vehicles when I'm stuck in traffic. So, I usually have all the windows rolled up. I turn the a/c on and off - just to take the edge off. I hate being cold at any time of the year.
ReplyDeleteMy mother had a gazillion store credit cards, too. And those things have interest rates up to 22%!! Dear god. I have none. Macy's can keep asking; I will keep turning them down.
I want to hang with Ruth.
ReplyDeleteI have a zillion meme's waiting for me to do and none of them are cool.
ReplyDeleteI'm so with you on #2. Even when it's 90 degrees outside (as it so often is in TX) I roll all the windows down and crank the stereo. It makes me feel younger, truth be told, and as mothers, it's often the only time we truly have to ourselves all day.
ReplyDelete(I also crank the stereo because I have to drown out the sound of my tone deaf singing, but that's another story.)
Yes! on the flannel.
ReplyDeleteOh, the picture of Ruth and pals is priceless too.
ReplyDeleteITA on the percale. My mother-in-law gave us some sheets that are probably older than I am. Divine.
this post is just lovely!
ReplyDeletemy mother didn't have credit cards or even a checking account. i was raised to believe i'd go straight to hell if i didn't pay cash. there is nothing like student loans to break a myth.
It's not summer until I'm blaring Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child o' Mine" out the windows of my car. It's my one truly antisocial behavior if being a lawyer doesn't count.
ReplyDeleteDo you remember the Diner's Club card?
ReplyDeleteGo Ruth!
ReplyDeleteThat's my way to drive! And beating on the steering wheel too.
ReplyDeleteHa! #4 cracks me up.
I read your little newspaper quote, and assumed she was a basketball fan or some other testerone filled sport... but then read my newspaper and saw the same quote .. she plays bridge!!! I laughed so hard! I hope I've got half that verve when I'm her age. I can't drink Red Bull now, so I'm thinking I'd better make other plans.
ReplyDeletei hate flannel sheets, too. too pilly.
ReplyDeletei might have to switch from Mt Dew to Red Bull as I get older. ;)
