That child of mine? Oy.
She's in an afterschool program, and one of the teachers there is the aide in her kindergarten classroom. This is a good thing, because when I pick her up at afterschool, I get to chat with the aide and find out how things are going - I talk with the aide a lot more than I talk with the actual teacher.
Well, the other day, I went in to get her and the aide told me that they had had a substitute teacher in the kindergarten classroom that day. And at some point, the aide was out of the room for a bit, and when she came back in, the sub said "Catherine has a question". The aide said to the sub, "We don't have a Catherine". The sub gestures over to - yes - my child, who has introduced herself to the kindergarten substitute teacher as CATHERINE, which, granted, is her middle name, but is not something anyone ever calls her except me sometimes when I'm trying to make a point by using her first and middle names for emphasis.
Yeah. I thought they learned that "confuse the sub" thing when they were a bit older.
When I expressed to my sister my concern about having a teenager one day, she indicated that she thought perhaps I already had a teenager, and that maybe therefore the actual teenage years will be a piece of cake.
I hope so.
Oh, that's too funny. She's one smart little cookie!
ReplyDeleteWell, it IS a lovely name.
ReplyDeletemaybe you should start calling her Tiffany, just to see what happpens
ReplyDeleteOr maybe she just decided she liked her middle name better today--I had days like that in kindergarten!
ReplyDeleteOh, i'm sure it will be a snap, having a teenager. yes indeed.
ReplyDeleteWay to take advantage of the opportunity, Catherine!
ReplyDeletethat is SO hilarious.
ReplyDeletei was once dropped off a summer bible school in my little town at a church that wasn't the one my parents usually attended (i think mom may have been getting rid of me, now that i think about it), and it old everyone my name was snow white. it wasn't 'til 3 days in that they figured out who i was. :-)
that was "i told," not "it old" sorry about that. :-) i usually try to only misspell stuff on my own blog.
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny. Did "Catherine" tell you why she gave the sub a different name? Something tells me that her teenage years might be....interesting. Perhaps we will find ourselves roommates at the sanitorium.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe you'll have a 'teenager' for 14 years! ;-D
ReplyDeleteShe is going to be a hoot! Even more than she is now! Love her;)
ReplyDeleteI love it! (My daughter's middle name is Catherine, too.) When I was little, I used to introduce my self as Alesia Montgomery -- I had a strong desire to be Elizabeth Montgomery of Bewitched. I think I was a bit older than "Catherine" though. She's so advanced!
ReplyDeleteI kind of secretly love when they do those things where you SHOULD be mad, but you're actually super proud of them for being so clever? I have one of those moments a week...nice but alarming.
ReplyDeleteFunny.
ReplyDeleteAnd that happens to be MY daughter's middle name too--complete with the C spelling. I guess we both have good taste :D
I used to introduce myself as Dorothy.
ReplyDeleteCan I be the dissenting opinion here and say that, in my limited, sample-of-one experience, being a parent to a teenager really is a piece of cake?
Who's on first?
ReplyDeletewhat did the sub say to "catherine"? i think that is cute and funny.
ReplyDeletei once took a rubber mouse [cat toy] for show and tell, and told my K class that it was a real dead mouse. i think i got coolness points with my peers, but my teacher found some kind of tiny problem with that.
Several of my friends went through the middle name phase around 5th or 6th grade. Most of them changed back within the year. But yes, again, M shows how advanced she is.
ReplyDeleteOh, and both Z and I have the middle name Catherine. My grandmother can never remember her first name (considers it weird) so we tell her to call her Catherine.
