Wordless Wednesday: Cousins

I was rooting around on the computer looking for something, and I ended up browsing through a mess of photos that I hadn't seen in a while.

Mir has a cousin, a girl cousin who is a year and three-quarters older than she is. For a long time, said girl cousin has been the source of nearly all of Mir's clothes. Now, today, at almost five and soon-to-be seven, the two girls are nearly the same size, and the hand-me-down supply channel is drying up.

But back when this photo was taken (by my sister), Mir fit into the little dress, and her cousin fit into the big dress (and her cousin had worn the little dress previously, and Mir wore the big dress later). The dresses aren't the same, aren't from the same company or anything, but they're birds of a feather. And the two little blonde girls, wearing them at the same time, might well have been sisters.

    So sweet.

My daughter quickly caught up in size with her source of hand-me-downs (also a cousin). But I was more than OK with that as their styles diverged around the same time: one pre-teen sleaze, the other, American Girl.

  2. That's really sweet. :)

I had a cousin who was only about three months older than I was, and we were so alike that we often convinced people that we were twins. Cousins are fun.

  3. Nice. And you'd have a hard time dating a photo like that (except for the photo itself) because the dresses are so 19th century, 20th century....etc. I love hand-me-downs. And I love seeing babies wearing the clothes that Dusty and Red wore. They grow so quickly - it's a crime not to get as much use out of them as possible (the clothes, not the kids. Well, maybe the kids, too.)

  5. Sorry about that ;--)
Wonderful photo … reminds me of my childhood. My sister was 4 years older than me and Mom made matching clothes for us often.
    Hugs and blessings,

  7. Oh, I have a hand-me-down gravy train too, but at Violet's rate of growth she will never catch up to the child who breaks in all of her clothes for her. No, I will likely lose my second hand supply when Vi's hereditary petite-ness makes her too short for anyone elses pants.

  10. It's hard to believe that LavaGirl would ever allow herself to be seen in a blue dress! :)

  14. very sweet

MQ is rapidly catching up with our neighbors who provide most of her clothing through hand me downs, and that will be a sad day, indeed, when we actually have to BUY her clothes

My breath caught in my throat. That was my girls. And now the younger is bigger than the older.

No more hand me downs. No more 'That will be my dress soon Mummy!'

Excuse me while I go and yell at them for growing up...

Cute dresses. Bet they looked a little Mary and Laura Ingalls-y.

Well, if Laura had been blond.
