Besides the fact that we need cats once again just because we need cats, we need cats so that when I make reference to things that make me "want to drink gin straight from the cat bowl", there's an actual cat bowl to hand.
Today, I could have used that cat bowl. I stuck to sauvignon blanc out of a proper glass, but...

I thought that Anne Lamott made that expression up. Or is she just the first one I'd heard use it?
I've heard that either a bird bath or a hub cap can do - in a pinch.
ugh. Vacation reentry. I hate it.
(At least, that was my reason for needing a stiff drink tonight.)
An expression I have never heard before.
An expression I have never heard before.
I have cats! You can have them.
Finally--my inherited cats are good for something!
oh man, i've had days like that!
but we strangely have acquired a cat that seems to think it lives here, so i will definitely add "i'm off to drink gin out of the cat bowl" to my vocabulary at the first opportunity. which will probably be later today.
I never had cats before....but my parents-in-law had 3, one died 2 years ago....
Even my cat refuses to drink from the cat bowl.
Here's a new reason for me to insist on replacing our dead cat. I'll give it a go.
Our cats' bowl lives in a barn stall and is frequently dirty and knocked upside down by wild animals. I would prefer not to drink anything out of it. You were wise to stick with the wine glass. At least you know where its been.
So is a dog bowl just too big? I don't know, my friend's swanky new dog is about the size of a cat!
But, hey, you can always take it straight from the bottle if you're desperate. Any good friend will join you.
The Old Country standard is from a soap dish, in the morning, warm.
Sorry to hear you had aggravations today, and with no cat bowl available. (I hadn't heard that expression either, but I love it!.)
So, will you be getting a cat?
Ah, gin in the cat bowl. Maybe that will keep him from mewing loudly in the middle of the night and once again waking the baby. It scares the shit out of her.
So, you want a cat? I can have him there by Friday.I'll even send his bowl.
i saw that earlier and it totally made me laugh.
note to self: get a really big cat bowl.
(((( magpie ))))) sorry about the stuff.
there are always kitties needing homes, and they all have special gifts. even the feral ones i adopted show their love, in their own ways.
uh, we have a really big cat water bowl. it is really a dog dish, sitting on a non-skid pad -- it is too big and heavy for the senior cat, a hurricane of neurosis, to drag across the floor for her own twisted reasons. anyway, sounds like you could use that dish today.
Excellent saying. I'll have to use that, too.
