The pumpkin graduated from pre-school yesterday. Sniff. I may be turning into a sentimental fool, but I thought it was pretty sweet.
The celebration included live music (with many kids taking a turn at the microphone), a potluck supper (with a lot of pizza and many store bought cookies; I brought a turnip cole slaw), and homemade mortarboards. The only thing missing was the wine. I know, I know - it's pre-school - but, it was nice hanging out with other parents in a low-key social situation, and wine would have been nice.
Monday she returns to daycare, but then it'll be "summer camp" and they'll "bask around in their bathing suits" and run under the sprinklers all day.
And kindergarten starts in September.
Sigh.

Look at those beautiful mortarboards!
Congratulations, Miss M., and sympathies to her mom. Kindergarten. So big.
I had to go to bed when my babies started kindergarten. Sighing for you...enjoy!
So sweet. Congrats to the little one!
The wine does seem to make a difference. Perhaps the teachers thought you'd never go home if there was wine . . .
Starting kindergarten is such an exciting time.
Oh, that leap feels so huge. I remember it well.
Happy graduation to your sweet baby girl.
Bittersweet, these moments.
I would have loved the coleslaw. And wine.
delicious.
I got darn near teary myself. It's a big deal, in my opinion. Is yours ready? Mine is still mourning the loss of her preschool.
the homemade mortar board is priceless!
Those mortarboards are the most stylish ones ever! Unless she goes to the Sorbonne for a doctorate, she may never look so good in graduation finery again.
I am just.not.thinking about kindergarden in September. Just.not.yet. Mostly. Sigh.
She looks so serious. Kindergarten! It IS a big deal.
I've never been to one of these graduations, but for the last four autumns I have driven past miles and miles of parents sending their kids off for their first day of school. Sends me into work crying *every* time.
Good job, go tip a glass now!
It's ridiculously cute, isn't it, to see them pass these small rites of passage. Ridiculous! And heart warming!
Awww... That was us, last year. K has been awesome. Awesome, I tell you. And I wish the same for you.
She seems to be listening so attentively.
Congratulations! And you'll love the Big K just as much. It's more "official" but still young enough to be so darned cute. They are adorable, the kindergarteners. You'll love it!
that's so sweet! congratulations!
it has been a really long time, but i remember the kindergarten teachers nicely kicking all the parents out on the first day of school. and feeling a little sniffly. but K teachers are really good about lining up volunteer parents to help with this and that.
Aw, that is definitely a bittersweet milestone. She's beautiful.
