Six Things and Some Other Stuff

Libby wants to know six things about me. There are rules, but I can't deal with rules. Tag yourself if you want to.

For some reason, I was thinking about english muffins the other day. I was thinking that Thomas' English Muffins are really the only ones to buy, to eat, to savor. One thing led to another, and I was making a list in my head of commercial food products that are without equal, things I love to eat, stuff that's just perfect. Mind you, we don't subsist on a lot of prepared food. For the most part, we buy milk and eggs and meat and fruit and vegetables and we cook. But there are some great things that aren't reproducible.

Herewith and without further ado, six wonderful things from the grocery store, for which no substitutes exist:

  1. Trader Joe's peanut butter filled pretzels - I had some of these in a little bowl on the counter and W. came along and grabbed one, tossed it in his mouth, and spit it out. I was hysterical. He didn't know there was peanut butter inside, and thought he'd got a pretzel with a worm or something inside, not expecting that soft center.
  2. Coca-cola - with caffeine and sugar, in a can - nectar of the gods, oft just called "nectar" in these parts. I don't like it in a glass, I don't like it in a bottle, I don't like it from a dispenser. Just straight from the can, ice-cold, thanks.
  3. Walker's shortbread - yeah, you can make your own shortbread, but this stuff is just perfect.
  4. Crown Pilots - Nabisco keeps trying to put these in the dustbin, and in fact maybe they've done it again because they don't appear on the Nabisco website and they're out of stock at the Vermont Country Store. As it happens, I bought a box a few weeks ago, and they were just as I remembered.
  5. Plochman's Mustard - This is the perfect mustard - so perfect that you can practically eat it out of the jar.
  6. Thomas' English Muffins
    - perfection.

The inimitable Nutmeg gave me an E for Excellent a couple of weeks back. I'd like to pass it along to Queen Mediocretia, someone I found when I googled blogs looking for someone dealing with a hospice situation. I hit pay dirt with her. She's funny, and she just buried her mother.

Which Alltop badge should I choose?
Alltop, confirmation that I kick ass
OR
Alltop. Seriously?! I got in?

And last but not least - does anyone need a paperback copy of Charlotte's Web? Somehow we ended up with two. Leave a comment and I'll make a random pick on Friday.

I'd add Hellmann's mayo to that list.

Congrats. You are excellent.

I had a professor in college, a world-famous professor who felt the same way about his Cokes. In fact, somebody had to get him one before lecture every day. And one day someone got him a Pepsi instead, and no Cokes. You should've heard that soliloquy...

Nice bling, and well deserved.

Slouching Mom beat me to my comment: Hellman's mayo. And definitely Thomas' English Muffins, and Walker Shortbread.

Of course you kick ass! Do that one.

(How'd you get in? I mean, do you have to ask, or does it magically happen when you are Excellent?)

Completely agree on the shortbread.

I like the "seriously? I got in?" one... congrats.

Have you been paying attention? I got a pity E right after Mom died:(http://mocklog.typepad.com/queen_mediocretia/2008/04/hairy.html)
but I appreciate your E too.

And now that I've seen what Alltop is, I appreciate all the traffic that should come my way from your estimable recommendation. I did find my first vibrator in one of Moms dresser drawers. Too soon?

Damn. I got so distracted by the queen's comment I forgot what I was going to add to your list of perfect things. Clearly not my brain..

And you can turn a meme into a food list...pure magic, I tell you, pure magic. (Did I mention I love food?)

Okay, I'm sold on the queen too.

Love them all. I love the way a real coke burns when you are really thirsty and you chug it.

what have those Nabisco people got against Clam Chowder, I ask you? I have a box stashed away, too.

My favorite store-bought item would be Pepperidge Farm's Milano cookies. God, I need one right now!

I was trying to think of 6 foods I like, but it's hard. Though I can easily come up with 6 x 6 foods that I can't stand.

I'm a Diet Coke fiend myself - and yes, ice cold and straight from the can. The minute you dilute it by pouring it out of the can, it loses all interest.

One of the bad points about living in Vermont -- no Trader Joe's.

And you kick ass. Obviously.

Peanut butter filled pretzels? Curious. I haven't eaten peanut butter for about 7 years, since D. was diagnosed with an allergy to peanuts. I miss you PB!

Oh, and I think you should go the kick ass banner. The other one makes it look like you have low self esteem. ;)

I'll have my Coca 'Light', but from a can, never a glass and never, ever fountain.
And I'll happily drink it with the pretzels... for dinner will be fine!
