I knew I was going to be out late last night, for work. In a moment of stunning selflessness, my husband called his sister and asked for a favor: a night in the swanky NYC hotel in which she works. Bingo.
So, I left the theater at about 11:00 in a chilly drizzle, checked into the hotel at 11:30, poked around every corner of the enormous one-bedroom suite with one and a half baths, opened every curtain to reveal the cityscape from the 42nd floor, soaked in a hot fragrant bubble bath, and slept well in the king-size bed unimpeded by kicking child or snoring husband.
In the morning, room service delivered fruit and croissants and coffee and the newspaper, and I sat on the windowsill in the sunshine - eating my breakfast, peering into distant windows, watching the gnat-sized taxis dance about below, and reading the paper.
Then I packed up my bag, turned in my key, and headed out into spring.
Nine hours. I almost feel human again.
Wow. How excellent.
ReplyDeletePURE HEAVEN!
ReplyDeleteYou needed it -- I'm glad you got it.
Wow - sounds awesome - and I can't imagine it going to a more deserving person!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds so wonderful
ReplyDeleteYou deserve that! How lovely -- the most I've gotten lately is two hours -- and I was at home, so I kept thinking of things that needed doing.
ReplyDeleteWow, sounds amazing.
ReplyDeleteI do this when I go to conventions, and it really is wonderful to get that little break.
Magpie, you so deserved this. I'm glad you got it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely gift.
ReplyDeleteThat hubby deserves a kiss! (and maybe just a little bit more *hehe*)

ReplyDeleteThis sounds divine. A prescription, really. Glad you got to have it.
ReplyDeleteToo bad there is a reason it's called a favor, and you can't make it, say, a monthly thing.
Wow, you really deserved that.
ReplyDeleteYou deserve nine days. Or nine weeks. But I'm glad you had nine hours.
Sweet. Good for you.
ReplyDeleteMu husband's sister works in a radiology office. Somehow free scans don't quite stacc up to a night alone in a hotel.
That sounds wonderful! I love being in a hotel by myself.
ReplyDeletethat just sounds so ... nice!
ReplyDeleteHooray for you! :)

ReplyDeleteDang, Maggie, you've just lived out one of my top 5 fantasies :)
ReplyDeleteBut right now, I think you deserve it far more than I do. And what a wonderful husband you have for knowing it!
