- I spoke to Joel Grey on the phone a couple weeks ago.
- I once went through a revolving door with Paul Simon.
- Jeff Buckley told me I have beautiful skin, with my husband standing right there. W. thought he was hitting on me.
- Once upon a time, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and I talked about going to visit the Metropolitan Musem of Art. It didn't happen, but I think he must have children all over the country - he's got an unlikely seductiveness.
- As a child, I asked Margot Fonteyn for her autograph - and she said no. To a child!
- I sat across the table from Lou Reed in a lawyer's office a long time ago.
- Edward Gorey once signed a Playbill for me.
- When I was about five, I sat on Bill Casey's lap when he was running for Congress. The photo made it into the local paper. I am vaguely mortified, 'cause he was a bad man.
If you like, consider yourself tapped, and spill your own brushes with celebrity.
Wild! I'd do it myself but I can't think of anything interesting like this.
ReplyDeleteOh, Edward Gorey! Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll put together a list. One of my most memorable celebrity encounters was serving breakfast to Kristi Yamaguchi, Olympic gold medalist, when I was a waitress. The event was made most memorable by the customer at the next table yelling at me and being so verbally abusive that I was in tears as I served Kristi her muffin.
Those were the days. (No, I don't miss waiting tables.)
Aw, Edward Gorey! I'm jealous. I don't think I have eight of these to write about.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I rode in an elevator with Tiffani Amber Theissen. She's TINY!
ReplyDeleteWhat? Jeff Buckley, WHAT?? Oh my goodness am I jealous. And he complimented your skin as well? My my my...
ReplyDeleteJealous about Edward Gorey as well. Grrr...
HA! I just wrote about my Michael Kors run in this week. And by run in... I mean, I ran until I caught up with him and then made him take a photo. .
ReplyDeleteNeil Young spoke to me once. In a restaurant. I froze.
ReplyDeleteI am close friends with the keyboard player for Bryan Adams.
I hung the work of a couple of art stars.
ach. it sounds so good listing them off.
Lou Reed huh. Did you speak with him?
Did you call Paul Simon "Al?"
ReplyDeletethis is hilarious. i love it. do you have diamonds on the soles of your shoes?
ReplyDeleteLove this!! Nice brushes! I might consider myself tagged.
ReplyDeleteHmmm,
ReplyDelete1. Sat across a dinner table from Angelina J. and her brother.
2. Introduced myself to Mike Bloomberg on the tarmac at Palm Springs airport when he gave a member of our party a ride home on his jet.
3. Rode the same subway car with Mike Bloomberg and George Pataki a few years later. We were all going to the Yankees game.
4. Stood behind Susan Lucci in the coffee line at the Breakers in Palm Beach. She's tiny and she gets her own coffee.
5. Had dinner with the Ambassador to/from Ethiopia (can't remember).
6. Brushed elbows with Steve Martin on the street in Aspen during comedy week.
7. Got a coupon for a free ice cream cone from Stew Leonard Jr. (at least I think he was Jr.!) As you can see, I'm stretching!
8. Used to live in the same small bldg in NYC as Virginia Wade...was in the elevator with her several times.
Well, I canNOT add Johnny Depp to my list. Hrmph.
ReplyDeleteOf all my NYC celeb sightings, from Muhammad Ali to Madonna, by far the best was JFK Jr. running, shirtless, in Central Park.
i love the revolving door one!!
ReplyDeleteI only have one - I went to a wedding that James Taylor also went to. But we didn't talk or sit at the same table or anything so actually it wasn't that exciting. That's it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I need to get out more. :)
Paul Simon! Loud Reed!
ReplyDeleteSqueeeeeeeeeeee!
Paul SIMON!!!
(What else did you say?)
Let's see:
Ross Perot told me I was clever. I'm loosely related (step) to a famous movie star. I spent formative years with another famous movie star, who I mistook "snobby" for "shy." Persistence and I were photographed with a Congressman and put in the paper. A famous band who now also does kids music were the wedding singers at my sister's wedding. I once reassured Sarah Bird that the movie did not make her book suck. I know a lot of famous bloggers, some of whom even let me know where they live.
oh. i lived in LA so I could totally do this meme! :) heck, I could do this meme as "8 people I knew before they were famous" hmmm...
ReplyDeletejoel grey! Very cool!
