I am a bad mother

Miss M. is in the office with me today, as her daycare is closed for Good Friday. She's running around in her ballerina suit (a pink leotard with an attached skirt) and some ballet slippers, watching movies and making a mess.

A little while ago, she asked if we could go visit the "sewing room". So we trundled off to visit the costume shop downstairs, where one of the drapers showed her Ariel's "sea bra" from the Broadway production of Little Mermaid and asked if she'd like to wear it. The way her face lit up was priceless. She got pinned into the sea bra and made a circumnavigation of the shop in it - all the stitchers and drapers were grinning from ear to ear.

And me, the bad mother? I didn't have a camera.

  2. I curse myself when I don't have a camera for those hilarious/amazing/incredible moments.

No worries... throw your camera in your purse and you'll have another moment to document shortly.

    Or camera phone!

  3. I always forget my camera. Always. Which is why every picture of my kids is taken in our yard.

  4. I can think of worse transgressions.

But you do make me think I should carry the camera around with us more. Most of our photos are around home, too.

  6. You are a good mother silly, you can always re-enact the scene, if only in her mind.

  7. Consider it an investment in living in the moment, maybe?

  9. oh, miss M and all her fans at your work must have been in heaven!

yes, a camera would have been excellent. but she and you have the cameras of your memories, after all. that is the real way we remember things.

  10. Bad (not!) mother, good blogger: you are blogging it! Next best thing to a picture.

I totally want to work where you work. We have no such interesting places in my building.

  16. Isn't it better to be living in, experiencing, the moment rather than distancing yourself from it with a camera? If photographs indicate mothering skills, I'd have failed long ago. I'd rather be a part of my son's life than his personal paparazzo, any day.

(Who has been reading you for a while but is only now delurking...sorry 'bout that)

  17. Oh yes, I seem to NOT have my camera, more than I do have my camera. I need to change that.

  19. Not a bad mother but maybe a bad blogger - I have to see pictures of moments that are that cute...

  20. It was the moment and the memory - those are more important than the missed photo op.

What a fun day for both of you!
