Mystery Mommy's been posting
quizzes, in which she asks you to identify some books by their first lines. I did staggeringly badly, so I thought I'd redeem myself by offering up one of my own. Here are the first lines of three books that I can't wait to share with Miss M. - do you know what they are?
- Claudia knew that she could never pull off the old-fashioned kind of running away.
- Maria was ten years old.
- There was once a boy named Milo who didn't know what to do with himself - not just sometimes, but always.
1---FROM THE MIXED UP FILES OF MARS BASIL E FRANKWEILER
ReplyDeleteOne of my ALL TIME favorites EVER!!
Sorry yes I am girlie squealing in delight. Sorry. LOL
Did you ask something else?
MARS = MRS
ReplyDeleteGot a little overexcited there LOL.
I can't remember what's on my grocery list. Talk about an abysmal showing. I'll just go "d'oh" when the answers appear.
ReplyDeleteI think I only know the first one!
ReplyDeleteFrom the Mixed of Files of...
Good game!
I only know #3 - from the Phantom Tollbooth - one of my favorites. What's #2?
ReplyDeleteI knew #1 and #3 (really!) but they've already been posted. Those are 2 of my favorites, especially #1. I dreamed about living in a museum for years after reading it.
ReplyDelete-andi
I knew #1 right away, since it is one of my favorites. In fact, I just ead it again recently, even though I am WAY out of the age group.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't figure any of them out, but if that really is from The Mixed-Up Files, I didn't recall it. That's my favorite childhood book!
ReplyDeleteEveryone's beat me to the punch, but I guess #3 correctly!
ReplyDeleteGreat meme!
I'm way too late but man. Mixed-Up Files is one of the all-time GREATS.
ReplyDeleteAdmitting cultural ignorance yet again-- I am completely stumped.
ReplyDeleteThe names in 1 and 3 are enormously helpful in trying to figure them out. But I wonder if I've ever read 2...
ReplyDeleteI figured out Mixed Up Files right away, and recognized three after some musing but two? I do NOT know.
ReplyDeleteWow - I didn't have a freaking clue about any of them - I feel like an illiterate!
ReplyDeleteWell, I know 1 and 3 for sure, and others beat me to it.
ReplyDeleteSo, 2 is, if I'm not mistaken, "Mistress Masham's Repose"??? I don't have a copy anymore, so I can't verify.
