Lots of people like having a cellar so that they can go to warehouse stores and buy many many many rolls of toilet paper. I do that.
But this morning?
I just ordered a case of carnaroli rice. That's 24 pounds of rice.
We like risotto.
I'm glad we don't live in an apartment anymore.

I can't fathom 24 lbs of rice!
But I do miss having a basement.
oooohhhh yummmmmm.
I have a fabulous butternut squash risotto recipe, if you are interested..
I know I'm going to miss our cellar next year when we have to go to an apartment for a year.
24lbs of rice. Sigh.
i've always wondered -- are a cellar and a basement exactly the same?
Do you have any good and easy recipes for risotto? Please share!!
Please post recipes -- I always have trouble getting the consistency on my risotto right.
I walked into my husband's office yesterday to find 12 boxes of Life cereal. He likes Life, it was on sale, and we didn't have room in the pantry.
Guess we need a basement.
Our basement is home to everything we can't fit in the rest of the house. And lots of unpacked boxes.
I LOVE risotto too!
I have to admit, I get sick of things when I buy that much. On the other hand...rice is kind of a staple, so maybe I would never get tired of them?
Wow, is that a lot of rice. One of my favorite late summer dishes is a tomato risotto made with fresh tomato and basil.
I think I need a picture of that much rice.
We are about to rent a storage unit. Maybe we could just drop off a couple things in your cellar?
I also would like to know if a cellar = basement.
Rice is a wonderful staple, for your cellar, or otherwise.
I tend to store a lot of rubber bands. But they stay in our junk drawer.
i demand some risotto recipes. i demand them.
Hooray for buying in bulk.
Thanks for your comment... I love Google Reader. It's so handy. :)
Mmm. Risotto. Yes, you must post a recipe.
And I have such cellar/basement envy. These darn southern homes have no cellars. Where do they keep stuff?!
So. Must be some darned fine rice, eh? I'll have to try it!
You know what I have in my cellar. Books. Hundreds of books. Thousands of books. Millions and billions and zillions of books.
I'd much rather have rice.
I like to hoard things like great big bags of rice, too. You'll have to post some recipes!
My basement only has books and teaching supplies (from back when I was going to have a career- pre-kids of course). But I guess that's okay, since it would prabably take me years to go through that much rice. I'm not much of a chef.
Found you through MadMad. Nice to meet you!
I just found a huge amount of rice buried in my pantry under some other crud I bought and I thought: YEAH! I'M A SURVIVALIST! Bring on the disasters, I'm ready. Well, kind of. I need to stock up on some water. And some propane, perhaps.
I look forward to hearing about your creative risottos under better circumstances than an emergency.
If I grab my saffron and leave now, I should be there in time to help prep for dinner.
We don't have a cellar... We do have extensive 'outbuildings' though...
When we left Andorra I bought 10 boxes of Carnaroli, and the other one, Vialone Nano (I think). I wanted to be prepared and it was a good thing: I couldn't even find Arborio here in France!
Maybe you can start a business that caters to wedding attendees- sell them bags of rice to throw at the bride and groom.
