Three Weeks 'Til Christmas

I've been thinking that there's all this time before Christmas, until I just looked at the calendar and realized that it's the 25th in three weeks. Yikes! Where'd the time go?

Over the weekend, we snuck into the Christmas boxes and extracted some tchotchkes - the Santa matrushka is on the mantlepiece, a stuffed Rudolf is the new favorite toy, and the Jingle Bells music box has already been to school once.

And we got out the Christmas books. I love that we have a collection of books that comes out for one month a year. Some are tried and true, like How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. But others are newer and weren't around when I was a kid, like these two charmers:

Do you have a favorite Christmas book?

Patience loves Polar Express (book) and Shrek the Halls (TV show). However last night we did Charlie Brown Christmas twice. With cocoa. :)

I love Polar Express (the book and the movie) and of course, your classics.

It's so nice to change up the book reading for the holidays - although I think in 5 days I might be a little sick of reading Frosty already.

Err, make that 2 days.

The typical--"The Night Before Christmas".

We have this ancient paperback, its edges are frayed and soft as chenille, the illustrations within are quirky, and its narration of Santa's journey is slightly off the beaten path. Our older daughter has never let me read it, but rather has had me expound upon little vignettes within the pages. I am so fascinated by what catches her eye. Thanks for reminding me of how sweeet it is.

We like Moosletoe, just like SM's family. And Kipper's Christmas Eve.
