Sometime after 9/11, NYC made a new law that buildings over a certain height had to have photoluminescent signage in all the stairwells and pointing to exits. So, my office building recently installed all of this fancy stuff so the City wouldn't come and fine us (and because it was the right thing to do). But what gets me is the required signage down at ground level. The doors from the fire stairs to the street exits all say "Final Exit". I'm sorry, but that seems unnecessarily dark and dire to me. Do you think the people who wrote the code know that Final Exit is a how-to guide for suicide and assisted euthanasia?

Could they add additional signage reading "No Exit"?
I'd be a little hesitant to use that exit, I think.
hmmm... ys, it is a bit creepy, but good that they ae doing the signs, I guess. and hey, the green signs look like they would match the paint in your home... wouldn't that be a cheery thing to hang over your door?
I was just thinking how color-coordinated these last few posts are.
It is a weird sign..is the final supposed to designate "to the outside?" as opposed to other exits where you might still have to move to another staircase or something?
It reminds me of doors that have alarms on them that say "Door alarmed." I'm always like--whoa, poor freaked out door!

Hmmm...if those signs are easily removed (or even if they're not), I bet that a number of them end up decorating college dorms. Definitely spooky.
Final exit. That's definitely kind of creepy.
