Herewith, for Thursday Thirteen - thirteen books received for Christmas - by the three of us, not just me. There are others - these are just the thirteen presently near to hand.
- A Stew or a Story (M.F.K. Fisher) - collected short pieces
- Book of Longing (Leonard Cohen) - poetry
- Decca: The Letters of Jessica Mitford
- Dirty Sugar Cookies (Ayun Halliday)
- English as She is Spoke (José da Fonseca and Pedro Carolino) - hysterical!
- Little Tree (e.e. cummings/Chris Raschko)
- Olivia’s Opposites (Ian Falconer)
- Pete's a Pizza (William Steig) - which I have already read to Miss M. three times today
- The Omnivore's Dilemma (Michael Pollan) – 2 copies, oops, my sister's getting one back for her birthday
- The Reluctant Dragon (Kenneth Grahame)
- The Snowy Day (Ezra Jack Keats)
- There’s a Monster in My Backpack (Lisa Moser) – thanks to Mother Reader who reviewed this a month or so ago - it sounded charming, and it is.
- Wondrous Strange: the life and art of Glenn Gould (Kevin Bazzana)
Is there a theme here? Kids books, food books, word books, art and music books.

Books are wonderful gifts. :) I also received some for Christmas. Enjoy reading them! :)
good thing about books for gifts, they are like gifts for the whole family
M.K. Fisher is a wonderful writer - and I love Pete Seeger too! I buy my own books at Christmas - I have so many that folks don't know what to get me any more. Luckily Phillipa Gregory just came out with a new one. Merry Christmas to me!
What a great list of books! I've read some of the short pieces in A Stew or A Story, but haven't had a chance to indulge in the whole thing - I suspect you'll really enjoy it.
My 13 is up as well.
Cheers!
